INTERMENT SPACE

The City of Newton owns three Veterans Lots in Newton Cemetery and one is open for new burials. Professional service fees apply to all burials in Newton Cemetery, including those of veterans. Other options for those eligible are the Massachusetts National Cemetery or one of the state veterans cemeteries located in Winchendon and Agawam, Massachusetts. Please contact the City of Newton Veterans Affairs Office at (617) 796-1090 for more information on who is eligible to use space in the Newton Cemetery Veterans Lot or other veterans cemeteries, and to find out what other resources and assistance may be available.

VETERAN MARKERS

U.S. Armed Service Members are eligible for a free marker from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veteran markers, niche markers, and medallions are provided by the Department. Applications are forwarded to the Department of Veterans Affairs through the cemetery office. Veteran Memorials must conform to Newton Cemetery Rules and Regulations. To find out what your space allows for memorialization, please contact the cemetery office at 617-332-0047.

FLAGS FOR VETERANS

Traditionally, flags are placed at the graves of veterans for Memorial Day. The flag placement volunteer effort at Newton Cemetery is coordinated through the City of Newton Veterans Affairs office. If want to place your own, flags are available at the cemetery office.
