Newton Cemetery Awarded Cap Grant
Date Awarded: Wednesday, March 27, 2019 – 8:00am
Newton Cemetery & Arboretum is one of 79 institutions in the United States selected to participate in the Collections Assessment for Preservation (CAP) program.
CAP helps sites improve the care of their collections by providing support for a conservation assessment of the institution’s collections and buildings. The institution will work with a team of preservation professionals to identify preventive conservation priorities. The final assessment report will help the institution prioritize its collections care efforts in the coming years.
“We are very excited to be awarded this grant. The Newton Cemetery & Arboretum, with support from the Friends of Newton Cemetery, wishes to develop a long-range preservation/conservation plan for the Cemetery collections. This includes improving collections care, increasing awareness of collections conservation concerns, and improving storage conditions. This grant program is the first step in reaching our goals. The Cemetery was established in 1855, but will be here for eternity. Proper care of the collections will ensure they will be available for all future generations.” –Mary Ann Buras, President Newton Cemetery & Arboretum
